OGDEN, Utah – It was a tremendous weekend for Idaho soccer. First, the Vandals earned two huge road wins and now they earned two Big Sky Player of the Week honors for
Emma Eddy and
Clara Gomez.
Â
Eddy earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring the first Idaho hat trick since 2000 and the first in a Big Sky conference game in nearly two years. Eddy turned things on the second half, with her first coming in the 52
nd minute off of a rebound. She would bury her second in the 82
nd minute off of a great find from
Kavita Battan, then finish off the hat trick in the 90
th. Eddy currently sits alone atop the Big Sky rankings in points (12) and goals (6). Eddy has also been named the Vandal of the Week for two consecutive weeks.
Â
Gomez earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades. A major factor in the Idaho defense, Gomez and the Vandals allowed two goals over the weekend, with both coming directly off of free kicks just outside the box. The Vandals also allowed just 23 shots over the weekend. Gomez also played a significant role on the offensive side of the ball, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals against Sacramento State on Friday. She wasn't done there, as she also had an assist against the Hornets and another on the game-winner at Portland State on Sunday.
Â
Idaho is currently riding a four-game winning streak after knocking off Sacramento State and Portland State over the weekend. The Vandals sit atop the Big Sky standings with 15 points.
Â
The Vandals play just one this weekend, at Weber State on Friday at 6 p.m. Pacific. Check back with GoVandals.com later in the week for more information.
