PRINCEVILLE, Hawai`i –
Ryan Porch is tied for 29
th after the opening round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational.
His 73 puts him in a logjam of 12 players who are one-over with another six at even par, and seven at one-under. East Tennessee State's Mateusz Gradecki is the leader by one stroke with a seven-under 65.
"We got off to a poor start," coach
David Nuhn said, "but the guys battled."
An already challenging layout at the Makai Golf Club was made more difficult by wind and rains of late that made it play longer than its 7,200 yards.
"If your execution was even a little bit off," Nuhn said, "you were in trouble."
Nuhn said another day on the course should be beneficial to his young team in Monday's second round.
"We will play better now that we know the golf course better," he said. "We're going to be positive and have fun."
