OGDEN, Utah – Recognition for the regular season champs is starting to roll in, with the announcing of the 2016 All-Big Sky Conference teams. The Vandals placed seven athletes on the all-conference teams, with freshman
Emma Eddy being named as one of the three co-Newcomers of the Year.
Â
Eddy was sensational in Big Sky play, scoring eight goals in 10 games, the second most goals among all athletes in the conference behind Offensive Player of the Year Chloe Williams. Eddy's best performance came at Sacramento State, when the freshman from Eugene, Ore., netted the first Idaho hat trick since 2000. Eddy ranks second in the Big Sky in points in conference play with 17. Mikayla Reed, a midfielder from Sacramento State with one assist in conference play, and Paige Stevens, a forward from Weber State with three goals in conference play, were also given co-Newcomer of the Year honors.
Â
The Vandals placed seven athletes on all-conference teams, led by
Kavita Battan as a First Team All-Big Sky selection. Eddy,
Kelly Dopke,
Josilyn Daggs,
Elexis Schlossarek and
Clara Gomez all earned second team accolades, while
Olivia Baggerly was earned honorable mention accolades.
Â
Battan has been a key force up front for the Vandals for four years and this year was no different. The senior finished third on the team in the regular season with five goals and fourth with four assists. In Big Sky play, Battan netted three goals to go with four assists in just eight games.
Â
Kelly Dopke and
Josilyn Daggs are key members of the Idaho defense that once again led the league in goals against average in conference play. The Vandals allowed just nine goals in 10 matches, earning three shutouts along the way. Both also got involved on the offensive end, with Dopke scoring one goal and Daggs scoring once and adding five assists.
Â
Elexis Schlossarek and
Clara Gomez dominated the midfield for the Vandals all season, but really picked things up in conference play. Schlossarek finished second in the Big Sky with 17 points in conference play. Her six goals were third most, while her five assists were tied with Gomez for second most. Gomez ranked eighth in the conference with four goals in Big Sky play and fourth with 13 points.
Â
Olivia Baggerly started every game in conference play, scoring once and adding two assists. Baggerly served whatever role was necessary, playing in the midfield and as a forward on different occasions.
Â
As a team, Idaho was incredibly balanced in 2016. The Vandals scored more goals in conference than their historic, record-breaking 2015 campaign and got contributions from across the board with 12 different athletes scoring in conference play.
Â
Noticeably absent from the all-conference selections is senior goalkeeper
Torell Stewart, who led the Big Sky with a 0.85 goals against average and a 0.809 save percentage.
Â
Idaho will begin its quest for the Big Sky Tournament Championship on Friday at 1 p.m. against the winner of EWU-Montana. Live stats and video will be available. Check back with GoVandals.com as the game approaches for more information.
