NEW ORLEANS, La. – For the second consecutive season, both the men's and women's track and field teams have been recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their hard work in the classroom as 2016 All-Academic Teams.  Senior Kinsey Gomez was also recognized, earning All-Academic individual honors.

To qualify, teams must post a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.  Individuals must earn a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 while also meeting competitive standards in their events.  In all, 122 men's teams and 220 women's teams were recognized.

Gomez took home a lot of hardware last season.  The senior from Coeur d'Alene represented the Vandals at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, earning Second Team All-America accolades in the 10,000-meters.  She was also recognized by the NCAA as the recipient of the 2016 Elite 90 Award, given annually to the athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at each of the championship sites in all NCAA sports.

The Idaho women posted an incredible team GPA of 3.40, while the men finished with a GPA of 3.10.  Both teams had tremendous years, improving on their finishes in just their second seasons in the Big Sky.
