Whyte Competes in Rio

Takes part in third Olympic Games

MOSCOW, Idaho – Former Vandal Angela Whyte competed in the 100-meter hurdles at the Rio Olympics on Tuesday morning, marking the third time that the Canadian has participated in an Olympic Games.

Whyte took sixth in the third heat with a time of 13.09 seconds.  The top three athletes from each heat, as well as six at-large athletes with the best times, advanced to the semifinals.  All six at-large athletes broke 13 seconds, with the final qualifier coming in at 12.99 seconds.

This marked the third Olympic Games that Whyte has competed in.  She previously ran at the 2004 and 2008 Games, finishing sixth overall in Athens.  Whyte was also recognized by her team and her country, being selected as one of two captains for Team Canada's track and field squad.

Whyte's name is very prevalent throughout the Idaho track and field record book, as she still holds several program records today.  She also helped coach the Vandals before making the move to Washington State.
