PULLMAN, Wash. – Ethan Atherstone finished his first collegiate golf tournament in stellar fashion with a two-under 211 and a tie for second at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate at Palouse Ridge Golf Course. He was just one stroke back of medalist Nick Mandell from Washington State.
While the Vandals as a team, had moments of struggle and wound up tied for 11
th, coach
David Nuhn saw progress over the 54-hole, two-day tournament.
"We're starting to see glimmers of what I've been trying to get them to focus on," Nuhn said. "I like the fight I saw out of a lot of guys."
In addition to Atherstone's runner-up finish,
Ryan Porch tied for 18
th at three-over 216. Atherstone was a model of consistency with rounds of 70-71-70, while Porch went 72-70-74.
"It's a great thing to see out of him," Nuhn said of Atherstone. "Hopefully, that will give him confidence moving forward. Ryan didn't have his best stuff this week but he was able to fight back and have a good finish."
