OGDEN, Utah—Sophomore guard
Mikayla Ferenz was named Big Sky women's basketball Player of the Week announced by the conference office on Tuesday. The honor marks her second of the season.
Ferenz propelled Idaho to its first Big Sky sweep of the season last week, netting two come-from-behind wins at Southern Utah and Northern Arizona. The sophomore guard averaged 28.5 points, six rebounds and six assists per game.
The Walla Walla, Wash., native, opened the week with 16 points at Southern Utah. She led Idaho with a career-high seven assists as the Vandals recovered from a 13-point deficit to win 85-68.
Ferenz went 15-of-17 from the field, on her way to a school record 41 points, in Idaho's 91-80 win over Northern Arizona. She went 9-for-10 from three-point distance, tying the school record for most three-point shots in a game. Her 41 points are 15th in the NCAA this season, while the nine three-point shots are tied for the second most in the nation.
She is averaging a Big Sky best 18.4 points per game and is 10th in the NCAA with a 91.4 free-throw percentage.
Idaho is back in the Cowan Spectrum this week. The Vandals will host Montana State on Thursday and close out the weekend with Montana on Saturday.
