SAMMAMISH, Wash.- University of Idaho women's golf posted its best team round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Wednesday, with an 18-over 306 in the final round. The Vandals moved up one spot on the last day of play to take ninth as a team.
Sophie Hausmann led the team individually, finishing in a tie for 21st at 12-over (74-78-76=228).
Â
Idaho finished the tournament with a 63-over (308-313-306=927) team score at Sahalee Country Club. The final-round 306 was seventh-best in the field. The Vandals finished nine strokes back of fifth place after entering the third round in 10th.
Â
"This tournament is one of the best and most challenging in the country," said head coach
Lisa Johnson. "We improved our play from yesterday and will take what we learned to next week's practice and our final tournaments of the season."
Â
Michelle Kim finished two strokes behind Hausmann and in a tie for 27th overall. Kim fired a 14-over 230 (73-79-78) for the tournament. Her first-round 73 was Idaho's best single-round score of the tournament.
Â
Valeria Patino led the Vandals Wednesday, with a 74. Patino shot 82 in the first round and 80 in the second round Tuesday. Her final-round 74 included four birdies.
Â
"Valeria's inexperience on this type of golf course showed yesterday," Johnson said. "For her to show so much growth overnight is a testament to her skill and determination to learn from her mistakes."
Â
The Vandals have two more fall tournaments on the schedule. Idaho will return to action Oct. 22-24, at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
