PROVO, Utah—The Vandal men's tennis team took to the courts this week at Brigham Young University for the ITA Mountain Regional. Mark Kovacs and Carlos Longhi Neto each advanced to the round of 16 in singles play to lead the Idaho contingency.  

The pair also was the top Idaho team in the doubles bracket. The duo finished with a 3-1 record, advancing to the quarterfinals. The pair opened with an 8-6 win over Weber State's Nick Werner and Michiel Van Schoor. They next scored over Montana's Max Korkh and Ludvig Hallgren to advance to the round of 16. The pair recorded another 8-6 decision to move into quarterfinal play where the fell to Utah's Joe Wolley and Dan Little, 8-5.

Three Vandals advanced out to of the first round of the singles bracket. Guilherme Scarpelli joined Kovacs and Longhi Neto in the round of 64. Scarpelli finished with a 2-1 record, falling in the round of 32 to New Mexico State's Christofer Goncalves.

Kovacs and Longhi Neto both closed the tournament with a 3-1 record. Kovacs picked up wins over Boise State and Northern Colorado to move into the round of 32. He picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Denver's Ignatius Castelineo. The Idaho senior fell in the round of 16 to New Mexico's Dominic West, 6-1, 6-1.

Longi Neto scored wins over Nevada and New Mexico State to advance to the round of 32. He fought off UNLV's Eric Samuelsson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to continue on in the round of 16. The second-year Vandal closed his tournament with a 2-26, 6-3, 6-3 loss to Montana's Victor Casadevall.

Idaho's next tournament is set for Oct. 27. The Vandals will head up to Spokane to play in the Bulldog Classic.
