Schlyter Earns Conference Honor

Emma Schlyter picked up Idaho's first Swimmer of the Week honor

11/14/2017

DENVER- Idaho freshman Emma Schlyter was named the Western Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week for Nov. 7-13, the conference announced Tuesday. Schlyter led the Vandals to a dual meet win Friday, over conference foe New Mexico State. This is the first weekly honor of the season for an Idaho swimmer. Janelle Lucas was named the WAC Diver of the Week last month.

Schlyter scored a meet-high 21 individual points and helped a relay team to victory in Idaho's 181.5-118.5 win over the Aggies. The Thunder Bay, Ontario, native posted wins in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events, while adding a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Schlyter notched a season-best time in the 100 at 53.97. She ran away from the field in the 200 (1:53.49) and 500 (5:12.34), just shy of her season bests in both events.

The freshman also swam on Idaho's victorious 400-yard freestyle relay to close the meet.

The Vandals travel to the Phil Hansel Invitational for their next meet. The competition runs Nov. 17-19, at the University of Houston.
