MOSCOW, Idaho- University of Idaho football student-athletes
Ed Hall and
Jacob Sannon were named to the Academic All-District 7 First Team Thursday, by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Earlier this week Sannon earned the 1A Faculty Athletics Representative Academic Excellence Award.
Â
Hall, a junior linebacker from Chugiak, Alaska, carries a 3.83 grade-point average in mechanical engineering. He has a team-leading three interceptions this season and ranks third on the team with 55 tackles.
Â
Sannon, a senior wide receiver from Bradenton, Fla., earned an accounting degree last spring with a 3.91 GPA and currently holds a 4.0 GPA in graduate school as he works toward a master's degree in accounting. He leads the Vandals with 52 catches and his 537 receiving yards are second on the team.
Â
This marks the first Academic All-District award for an Idaho football student-athlete since 2009, when defensive lineman Aaron Lavarias was named to the District 8 team. The last time two Vandals were named Academic All-District in the same year was 2007 (David Vobora and T.J. Conley).
Â
District 7 encompasses all Division I (FBS and FCS) schools in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. Hall and Sannon now advance to the Academic All-America ballot, where first- and second-team All-America honorees will be selected later this fall.
Â
Four student-athletes in Idaho football history have been named Academic All-America since the program's inception in 1952. The most recent honoree was punter T.J. Conley in 2008, earning second-team honors. Previous Vandal football Academic All-Americans are Rick Giampietri (2000; second team), Boyce Bailey (1983; second team) and Bruce Langmeade (1970; first team).
Â
Sannon is one of just nine Academic All-District honorees nationwide who has already earned his bachelor's degree and is working on a graduate degree. He is one of just 25 football student-athletes nationwide to earn the 1A FAR Academic Excellence Award.
