Vandals Remain in Fourth

Maren Seljevold led four Vandal divers in the championship final

HOUSTON- Idaho women's swimming and diving enjoyed 12 individual scoring performances and two strong relays Friday,  to remain in fourth place through the second day of the Phill Hansel Invitational in Houston. All four Vandal divers made the A final of the three-meter springboard competition.

Maren Seljevold earned the final spot in the championship final by less than half a point. Seljevold went on to take third in the finals, posting a 282.65, nearly 50 points higher than her preliminary score. Janelle Lucas checked in right behind Seljevold in fourth. Hailey Kessler took sixth and Emi Smith finished eighth.

The Vandals took seventh in both relays, including a time of 7:31.82 in the 800-yard freestyle relay by the team of Emma Schlyter, Aileen Pannecoucke, Sarah Hall and Leah Fisk.

The same quartet also starred individually in the 200-yard freestyle. Pannecoucke finished 11th, inches before Schlyter touched the wall in 12th. Both recorded faster times in prelims with Schlyter claiming Idaho's season-best time at 1:51.12. Fisk took 20th overall and Hall finished 26th.

Idaho also claimed a pair of top-15 finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke with Cara Jernigan and Aimee Iwamoto both advancing to the B final. Jernigan finished 14th and Iwamoto took 15th. Jernigan's preliminary time of 1:04.26 is the fastest by a Vandal this season.

The team's other B final performance came from Emily Kliewar in the 100-yard butterfly. After just missing out on a spot in the championship final with a season-best 55.63 in the morning, Kliewar finished 12th overall with a 56.01 at night.

The meet concludes Saturday, with prelims at 10 a.m. CT and finals beginning at 5 p.m. CT with a timed final in the mile.
