FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.- Idaho women's swimming and diving dropped a tight meet at Northern Arizona Saturday, 173-122, the second meet in less than 24 hours for the Vandals.
Cara Jernigan and
Lauren Votava each posted a win and Idaho's 400-yard freestyle relay wrapped up the day with a victory.
Jernigan cruised to victory in the 100-yard breaststroke. She led by a half second after the first lap and posted a 1:05.50. The altitude-adjusted time (1:05.35) is the fastest by a Vandal this season. Idaho's
Aimee Iwamoto checked in at 1:06.22 to place second in the race.
The 200-yard breaststroke also saw a one-two finish for the Vandals.
Lauren Votava led the way in 2:25.95 with Jernigan just behind her. Votava staked herself an early advantage, leading by nearly a second after 100 yards. Jernigan powered through the final 100 yards, nearly catching her teammate. Jernigan touched the wall in 2:26.09. The altitude-adjusted time of 2:24.49 is a season best for Jernigan.
Idaho's quartet of
Aileen Pannecoucke,
Emily Kliewer,
Emma Schlyter and
Sarah Hall combined for a victory in the 400 freestyle relay. Pannecoucke and Schlyter swam the fastest first and third legs, respectively, and paced the Vandals to a time of 3:33.95.
Idaho (2-5) will host New Mexico State Friday, in its first home meet of the season. Races will get underway at 4:30 p.m. at the UI Swim Center.
