SPOKANE, Wash.—All eyes turned to the No. 5 court as the Idaho women's tennis team did battle with Gonzaga on Friday. The deciding point took three hours to conclude with Gonzaga getting the slight edge, gaining the 4-3 win.

Idaho (4-3) recovered from an early No. 3 doubles loss to win the next two matches. Marianna Petrei and Lucia Badillos turned in a 7-6 (5) win on the No. 1 court. Maria Tavares and Ana Batiri closed out the doubles point with a tiebreak win of their own, taking No. 2 play 7-6 (4).

Gonzaga (4-0) opened up singles with a win on the No. 2 court. Sophie Whittle, ranked No. 102 by the ITA, defeated Badillos 7-5, 6-1. Idaho recorded the next two points with wins from Tavares and Petrei, building a 3-1 lead in the match.

The Bulldogs chipped away at the Vandal advantage, tying the match with wins from Graciela Rosas and Domonique Garley. The deciding point came down to Ana Batiri and Haruna Tsuruta. Tsuruta got the upper hand early with a 6-4 first-set win. Batiri countered in the second with a 6-3 win, forcing a tiebreaker. Tsuruta outlasted Batiri in the end, 7-6 (4).

Idaho returns to Big Sky play on Sunday. The Vandals will host Northern Colorado in Pullman at 10 a.m. PT.
