LEWISTON, Idaho—The Idaho men's tennis team improved to 3-0 in Big Sky play with a 7-0 sweep of North Dakota on Saturday. The win is the Vandals fourth straight.
Idaho (5-2, 3-0 BSC) for the sixth time this season began the match with the double point. The team of
Felipe Fonseca and
Guilherme Scarpelli opened the day with a 6-0 win at No. 3.
Mark Kovacs and
Carlos Longhi Neto clinched the point with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position.
Lucas Coutinho and
Esteban Santibanez added a 7-5 win for good measure on the No. 2 court.
Fonseca opened singles play with a strong 6-0, 6-2 showing over Travis Lau on the No. 2 court. Longhi Neto improved to 4-0 on the season out of the No. 3 position. He went 6-3, 6-1 over Alex Mailes. Coutinho picked up the fourth and clinching point for the Vandals. He scored a 7-6(3), 6-1 win in the No. 4 slot
Kovacs fought his way to a 6-3, 7-6(3) win to get his fourth win of the season as Idaho's No. 1. Santibanez improved to 4-0 from the No. 5 position with a 6-2, 6-0 win. Sophomore
Peter Shin picked up his first win, 6-1, 6-4 , out of the No. 6 slot.
The Vandals are off until March 8. Idaho will host Radford in Lewiston for a non-conference bout.
