POCATELLO, Idaho – Freshman sensation
Rechelle Meade has been recognized by the Big Sky Conference for her performances at the Big Sky Indoor Championships last weekend, earning Freshman of the Year honors.
Meade competed in three events over the weekend, earning All-Big Sky Honorable Mention accolades in both the high jump and the long jump with third-place finishes. She also competed in the 60-meter dash, narrowly missing the cut for the finals by 0.04 seconds.
Meade was exceptional in the long jump, going over six meters for the first time in her career at 6.01 meters to earn the bronze medal. She also earned the bronze in the high jump, clearing 1.70 meters.
The Freshman of the Year award was added this year in addition to the Most Outstanding Performer and Most Valuable Athlete awards. The award incorporates a combination of points scored by the freshman at the conference meet, with quality of performances factored in.
The Vandals had earned five All-Big Sky accolades at the Championships. Along with both by Meade,
Ben Doucette won the 60-meter hurdles,
Arphaxad Carroll took second in the long jump and
Adara Winder placed third in the shot put.
