MOSCOW, Idaho – It was a tremendous day for Idaho Track and Field as the Vandals took part in the Idaho Duals inside the Kibbie Dome on Friday. The Vandals earned eight individual wins and had a number of impressive marks on the day.
"I thought it was great today, I could not have been happier," said director of track and field
Tim Cawley. "I thought the team, they competed fantastic. In a meet like this, where it was about placing and not necessarily about getting PR's, it's about going and competing. It's what we're going to need to do when we go to conference so it was kind of a nice precursor for that. The atmosphere, the way they competed was great. And the PR's followed because of the way they competed.
"From a meet standpoint, my assistants did a fantastic job.
Travis Floeck did an amazing job, getting officials lined up and everything else he did, and
Cathleen Cawley does an amazing job setting these kinds of things up. Then
Jason Fearheiley, he built half this stuff just to help get this meet going. But overall, I couldn't have been more proud of our team. They supported each other amazingly and came out and competed."
The men were victorious over all four opponents, including a 94-15 win over Gonzaga. The men defeated fellow Big Sky schools Portland State (75-56), Eastern Washington (76-64) and Montana (73-66).
The women also enjoyed a solid day, going 3-1. The Vandals defeated Gonzaga (93-29), Portland State (78-44) and Eastern Washington (79-59), but fell in a close one to Montana (75-68).
Individually, the women took the top-two spots in the high jump.
Rechelle Meade won the event at 1.69 meters, while
Katelyn Peterson took second at 1.64 meters.
Meade would earn another win as well, coming out victorious in the long jump with a leap of 5.74 meters, tying her season-best.
Arphaxad Carroll also won two events on the day, beginning with the 60-meter dash. Carroll advanced to the final with the best preliminary time at 6.99 seconds and improved in the final to go 6.94 seconds. The time would be good enough to move Carroll into the top-10 in the Big Sky.
Carroll wasn't done, as he also won the long jump with a personal-best leap of 7.54 meters, the top jump in the conference this season.
The Vandals went one-two in the mile run, with
