MOSCOW, Idaho--The Idaho women's basketball team will have a short distance to travel for its next Women's Basketball Invitational contest. The Vandals found out Thursday night that they will travel to Eastern Washington to play in Monday's quarterfinals. Tip is set for 6 p.m. PT.
Idaho advanced to the quarterfinal round with its first postseason win since 1986 on Wednesday. Idaho defeated Utah State 64-57 in Memorial Gym.
Taylor Pierce led the way with 19 points and a career-high eight rebounds.
Mikayla Ferenz added 13 points in the win. Idaho led by as many as 16 in the third quarter. Utah State chipped away in the fourth quarter, getting back to within two points. 3's from Pierce and
Geraldine McCorkell helped Idaho pull away late.
Eastern Washington
needed a double-digit comeback to force overtime on its way to the win at Texas State on Thursday. EWU trailed by as many as 16 in the first half. The Eagles fought all the way back in the third quarter, gaining a 49-48 lead at the buzzer. The sides swapped the lead four times in the fourth quarter, finishing regulation with a 55-55 tie. EWU opened the overtime period on a 7-2 run, going up 62-57. The Eagles hit their free throws down the stretch to advance with the 66-62 win.
Monday will be the fourth meeting between the two schools this season. EWU owns a 2-1 record this season against the Vandals. Idaho picked up a 27-point win, 78-51, over the Eagles inside the Cowan Spectrum. Pierce was on of three Vandals to score double-figures, leading all players with 23 points. Eastern got the upper hand in the last meeting, 73-64, in the quarterfinals of the Big Sky Tournament.
