RESULTS
SPOKANE, Wash. – It was an excellent day at the 2017 Sam Adams Invitational for Idaho track and field with a number of athletes earning individual titles on Friday.
Kaleala Bass came out on top in the 400-meters, dominating the race by nearly three seconds and finishing in 58.16 seconds, her personal best and the eighth fastest time in the Big Sky this year.
Erin Hagen earned first in the 800-meters by better than four seconds at 2:16.89. The women's 4x100-meter relay team of
Rechelle Meade,
Nicole Carter,
Maddy Dustin and
Jordyn Rauer won the event with a time of 49.22 seconds.
Nicole Carter won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.71 seconds, a new PR. Dustin took fifth at 13.12 seconds.
The Vandals had three top-5 finishers in the 1500-meters, led by first-place finisher
Krista Story at 4:39.05, the fourth fastest time in the conference this year.
Andrea Condie and
Halie Raudenbush finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 4:45.94 (PR) and 4:47.19. Idaho repeated the feat in the long jump with Meade, Rauer and
Reed Richardson going 2-3-4 in the event. Meade leapt 5.06 meters (16-7.25), Rauer went 4.96 meters (16-3.25) and Richardson jumped 4.88 meters (16-0.25). The triple jump was much of the same. Richardson took second (10.85 meters/35-7.25), Rauer third (10.61 meters/34-9.75) and
Lauren Curlanis fourth (10.10 meters/33-1.75).
Dustin would go on to finish second in the 200-meters, edging out teammate
Kaylee Hove with a time of 26.24 seconds. Hove finished five hundredths of a second behind in third. In the pole vault,
Cecilia Watkins took third at 3.20 meters (10-6.00).
Kolcie Bates had a pair of top-five finishes. Bates earned third in the shot put at 12.25 meters (40-2.25) and fourth in the discus with a throw of 38.18 meters (125-3).
The men also had a tremendous day in Spokane. The Vandals dominated the 400-meter dash, led by
Kaizer Gillispie. Gillispie won the race at 47.83 seconds, the fastest time of his career and the second fastest time in the Big Sky this season.
Ian Middleton (50.26 seconds),
Dean Ellenwood (50.46 seconds) and
Blake Gerling (50.81 seconds) went 3-4-5.
Mack Baxter and
Zion Stuffle went 1-2 in the 400-meter hurdles. Baxter finished at 53.59 seconds, a new PR, while Stuffle was close behind with a time of 54.23 seconds. The times are good enough for second and third in the conference this year.
The 4x100-meter relay squad of
Kasin Pendergrass-Anderson,
Ben Doucette,
Drew Thompson and Gillispie won with a time of 42.33 seconds. Pendergrass-Anderson also earned an individual victory in the long jump with a leap of 7.07 meters (23-2.50)
Middleton posted a time of 22.95 seconds in the 200-meter dash, earning third. Doucette took second in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.74 seconds, the fourth best time in the Big Sky, with teammate Stuffle set a personal-best to finish fourth at 15.29 seconds.
Jonny Magee placed second in the triple jump at 13.94 meters.
Matthew Bauman finished second in the discus with a toss of 41.96 meters.
