Tennis Squads Gearing Up for Stretch Run

MOSCOW, Idaho—The Idaho women's and men's tennis teams are set to begin the final stretch of the regular season this week. The Vandals women will play three matches in three days, while the men will close out the week with in Big Sky play.

The women, looking for their third straight Big Sky title, will are set for two Big Sky matches before a non-conference bout at Utah State. The Vandals will be at Idaho State on Friday and head over to Weber State on Saturday. Idaho is currently third in the conference, sitting behind Northern Arizona and Montana State.

Idaho State holds a 5-3 record in league play. The Bengals are behind Sacramento State in the standings but hold onto the fourth seed as the Hornets are declining post-season play this season. Weber State is on the outside looking in at 2-5.

The Idaho men will put its 7-2 record on the line against Montana State on Saturday. The Vandals, weather permitting, will play their first and only match of the season at the Memorial Gym courts at 2 p.m. PT. Montana State (4-3) has lost three in-a-row and is tied for seventh in the Big Sky.

The top six teams in the conference standings earn bids to the tournament, with the No.1 and No. 2 seeds getting byes to the semifinals. The championships will be hosted at the Phoenix Tennis Center, April 27-30.
