BOULDER CITY, Nev. – University of Idaho golf coach
David Nuhn has a good feeling about the improvement he's seen in his team of late and what it means as the Vandals head into the Big Sky Golf Championships as the two-time defending champions. The tournament begins Friday and concludes Sunday.
"There are some good teams out there with some good players," Nuhn said. "They've worked hard to be where they're at. We have as well. I like the way the team has been playing the last couple of weeks."
Key to their success is maintaining their confidence and composure throughout the 54 holes at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
"I like the way they're hitting the golf ball," he said. "It's a very small difference at this level. Our guys can be there. They just have to believe they can."
Nuhn's lineup includes senior
Ryan Porch, junior
Hayden Ritter, sophomores
Enrique Marin and
Chris Carew, and freshman J.T. Bloomer. Porch tied for second at last year's tournament and, along with Marin, has been a leader throughout the 2016-17 season.
Nuhn likes the setup of the Boulder Creek complex of courses and he's confident his team can make the most of it and build off of their growing confidence.
"We put in the work," he said. "Now let's go out there and give it our best for 18 holes every day. Don't have a letdown. Remember every score can count. That's what we're here for – to compete and do our best."
