Marin has low round of tournanment; ties for eighth

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Idaho sophomore Enrique Marin jumped into a tie for eighth during the final round of the Big Sky Conference Golf Tournament after putting together the lowest round of the competition.

His logged five birdies en route to the five-under 67 – two under on the front nine and three under on the back. Marin had a five-over 221 for the tournament. Senior Ryan Porch had his best round of the tournament – a two-under 70, to tie for 11th with a 225.

The Vandals had their best round with a 295 and finished seventh with a 54-hole 923.

"I was extremely pleased with the finishes of both Ryan and Enrique," coach David Nuhn said. "Enrique just played a really, really good round of golf today."

Porch, the team's lone senior, had one bogey to go with three birdies in his final round as a Vandal.

"Ryan went out on a high note," Nuhn said. "I'm really happy for him and for all he's provided for this team. I'm really appreciative of all that he has given to this program."

Nuhn said the younger players on the squad – junior Hayden Ritter and sophomore Chris Carew (tied for 32nd at 239) and freshman Hayden Ritter (tied for 34th at 246), learned a lot from their first conference competition.

"It was a good experience for the young guys," Nuhn said. "It just shows where we need to go. … Experience breeds success and success breeds confidence and confidence breeds more success. We're working on it."

Sacramento State, with medalist Aaron Beverly (one-under 215), won the team title with an 874. Northern Colorado was second at 889.
