MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals will line up against each other Saturday at 10 a.m. in their first scrimmage of the spring.

Coach Paul Petrino likes what he has seen so far in the Vandals' five spring practices and he knows what he wants to see Saturday.

"Anytime you're scrimmaging," he said, "the biggest thing you want to see is guys playing hard, the defensive tackling really well, and the offense finishing their blocks and playing with good technique."

Petrino and his staff are looking to replace some key players from 2016's Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Championship team, but he's seeing the effort and energy it will take.

"Our defense is running around, running to the ball really well and tackling good out in space," he said. "Offensively, we're been executing fairly well, catching the ball well."

It's time now, he said, to make sure every footstep is exact.

"We want to pay attention to all the details; make sure we pay attention to every last detail of our jobs and our assignments," he said. "We need everyone improving on their technique every play."

The Vandals' next scrimmage is April 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Lewiston's Bengal Field with the spring finale the annual Silver and Gold Game April 28 at 6 p.m. at the Kibbie Dome.
