SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Idaho track and field picked up a number of excellent finishes on the first day of individual events at the 2017 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Both squads currently sit in sixth place heading into day two.
Rechelle Meade broke her own school record in the long jump, leaping 6.17 meters (20-3.00) to take second and earn Second Team All-Big Sky honors. She also took second in the high jump, clearing 1.76 meters (5-9.25) for a new personal-best.
Katelyn Peterson also scored in the event, clearing 1.65 meters to take seventh.
Nathan Stark earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention with a third-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 8:59.58. Stark entered the weekend ranked 26
th in the West in the event.
Several Vandals also moved on to finals which will take place on Saturday.
Kaizer Gillispie dominated the field in the prelims of the 400-meters, running a personal-best and the fastest time in the Big Sky this season at 47.08 seconds.
Mack Baxter posted the fastest 400-meter hurdles time of the day at 53.10 seconds to qualify for Saturday's final.
Zion Stuffle also qualified at 54.14 seconds.
Ben Doucette earned a spot in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles after posting a season-best time of 14.36 seconds and finishing fourth overall. The finals will take place at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday and can be seen live at WatchBigSky.com.
Kaleala Bass ran a personal-best in the 800-meters at 2:10.70 to qualify for Saturday's final. Both
Blake Gerling and
Ian Middleton qualified for the final on the men's side, posting times of 1:52.01 and 1:52.09, respectively.
Meghan Palesch qualified for the final in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.06.
Halie Raudenbush got the day started on the track with a fourth place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Raudenbush posted the eighth fastest time in program history, running a personal-best of 10:36.11.
Kasin Pendergrass-Anderson placed fifth in the long jump at 7.37 meters (24-2.25), a personal-best and the 10
th best leap in program history.
Dwain Stucker and
Grayson Ollar both scored in the 10,000-meters, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Stucker finished in 30:46.51, a new personal-best, while Ollar finished in 30:46.91 in his first collegiate 10k.
Adara Winder scored two points for the Vandals with a seventh-place finish in the shot put at 14.12 meters (46-4.00), a season-best.
