TEMPE, Ariz.— Idaho women's tennis star
Marianna Petrei will begin her junior year ranked No. 71 in singles as the Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings were released on Tuesday.
Â
Petrei, a native of Udine, Italy, went 10-0 last season at No. 1 singles, capping off her second straight undefeated conference season. She was a unanimous MVP choice last season, taking home the conference's top honor for the second straight year. Â
Â
Petrei finished 22-3 overall in 2017, leading the Big Sky with a 19-1 record at the No. 1 position in the spring. She went 13 straight matches with a win, dropping just two sets in the process.
Â
She added to individual accolades last season with her second First Team All-Big Sky selection. Petrei also earned First Team Doubles honors to go with her conference and ITA academic recognition.
Â
The preseason ranking makes her Idaho's first nationally ranked player since Gabriela Niculescu in 2010.
