HOUSTON- Maren Seljevold took third place in the three-meter diving competition Thursday, at the 2018 WAC Swimming and Diving Championships, leading a team effort that saw Idaho score 56 points in the event and remain in second place through the second day of the meet. The Vandals (237 points) are 18 points clear of third-place Grand Canyon (219) but trail Northern Arizona (380).
Â
Seljevold posted a 298.85 in finals to secure a bronze medal and her best-career finish in any event at the conference championships. The Vandals racked up points thanks to sending three through to the championship final and qualifying three more to the consolation final.
Hailey Kessler took sixth and
Emi Smith finished seventh.
Janelle Lucas won the consolation final with a 286, the best score Lucas has posted at a conference meet.
Indiya Williams (13th) and
Heather Carbon (15th) also contributed to the scoring effort.
"Today our divers lead us but we saw some great swims as well," said head coach
Mark Sowa. "Going one up and two down in both the 500 and the individual medley was really good. Obviously we had some opportunities that we need to take advantage of when they present themselves again; but I'm so proud of how these girls are battling and how they take care of each other. We had a ton of best times but the exciting thing is that we could still be much better. This will be fun."

Leah Fisk took sixth in the 500-yard freestyle with the second-fastest time in school history at 4:55.64. Fisk now owns the top five marks in program history in the event.
Sarah Hall finished 11th (5:58.05), while
Brianna Lucien added a 13th-place performance (5:01.31).

Â
Kok Cher Ling also scored individually in the 50-yard freestyle, swimming 24.04 to take 15th.

Sophomore
