02/27/2018

MOSCOW, Idaho—Idaho junior outside hitter Sarah Sharp, a 2017 Big Sky First Team All-Conference selection back in November, will attend this year's USA Volleyball Women's National Team Open Tryouts at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The tryout is set for March 2-4.

The tryout will have athletes from 90 colleges from across the country for spots on the U.S. Women's National Team and the U.S. Collegiate National Team program. The breakdown for the tryout includes 60 outside hitters, 49 middles, 48 liberos, 43 setters and 29 opposites.

"I feel pretty honored to be able to attend something like this," Sharp commented. "It is really cool to see all of the hard work being paid off. It will be really fun to travel there and play against some of the top talent in the country."

The tryout will involve four sessions with three waves per session. Friday's first session goes from 1-7 p.m. PT, while Saturday's sessions are at 7 a.m. (focus on serve/receive and individual work) and 1 p.m. (middle-centered and out-of-system focus). The final session on Sunday begins at 6:30 a.m. PT with tournament style play, along with 16-18 athletes selected by the U.S. Women's National Team staff to participate in a "USA" training session. The Sunday session wraps up at 9:30 a.m. PT.

Sharp, a Filer, Idaho native, led the Vandals last season with a career-best 3.66 kills per set, ranking fourth overall in the Big Sky. She has totaled 18 double-figure kill matches. Her 24 kills against North Dakota matched her career-high. Sharp led the Vandals a career-best 3.95 points per set. Her .255 attack percentage was also a career-high mark. Sharp also picked up her first career Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week honor.

Three-time Olympic gold medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Famer Karch Kiraly and the U.S. Women's National Team staff will lead the tryout process.
