BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom –
Former Vandal track and field athletes, Angela Whyte and Liga Velvere, will be competing at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championships this week. Events begin Friday March 2nd and run through Sunday March 4th.

Whyte will be competing on Friday in the women's 60-meter hurdles for Canada. She is a three-time Olympian in the 100m hurdles, and has won numerous medals at the Pan American Games and the Commonwealth Games in the event. While at Idaho, Whyte was a four-time All-American, a five-time Big West Conference champion and she set numerous Idaho program indoor records. She set the indoor long jump record (6.09 meters) in 2003, which current Vandal Rechelle Meade broke this season jumping 6.17 meters. Whyte also holds the program indoor records for the 55m, 60m, 200m, 55m hurdles, and the 60m hurdles.

Velvere will be competing for Latvia in the 800-meters. She holds the Latvian indoor record in the 800-meters at 2:02.01, set in Glasgow in 2018. Velvere competed in the 800m at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships, but did not qualify for the final. During her time at Idaho she set the Idaho indoor program record in both the 400-meters (55.46) and the 800-meters (2:06.20). She was also on Idaho's 4x400m Relay team that holds the program record.
