MOSCOW, Idaho – Another year comes to a close in Moscow, with the Idaho men's basketball team choosing to not pursue a postseason tournament after finishing the year 22-9.

"We've had great experiences competing in the CBI and the CIT the last two seasons, and those are great tournaments," said head coach Don Verlin.  "They're especially great for young programs.  After talking with our seniors, we decided to not pursue a postseason tournament this year."

The men enjoyed an incredible season, finishing with the seventh most wins in a single season in program history at 22.  They earned the No. 2 seed in the Big Sky Tournament in Reno after finishing the conference season 14-4.

The squad lit it up from 3-point range, knocking down a new program-record 277 3-pointers on the year while shooting better than 41 percent from beyond the arc.

The senior class leaves as one of the most distinguished in program history.  The group of six helped the Vandals win 62 games over the last three seasons, the fifth most wins over a three-year stretch in team history.

The Vandals now look ahead to the 2018-19 season.  Idaho returns two rotation players, in Nate Sherwood and Trevon Allen, as well as a handful of guys that saw limited minutes throughout the season and three redshirts that continued to develop behind-the-scenes all year long.  Idaho's recruiting class is also sure to make an immediate impact, and is currently comprised of two junior college transfers and one talented freshman.

THE DON VERLIN FILE

Head coach Don Verlin has turned the Idaho basketball program around in his 10 years in Moscow, taking a struggling program and turning it into a consistent conference contender.

In the 10 years prior to Verlin taking over, the Vandals averaged 9.4 wins per season while posting a winning percentage of 32.6%.  The stretch included three head coaches, just one winning season and six seasons with fewer than 10 wins.

Since then, The Vandals have upped their win total to 17.2 wins per season and a winning percentage of 53.6%.  Idaho earned spots in postseason tournaments five times (4 CIT, 1 CBI), after previously not advancing to the postseason since making the NCAA Tournament in 1990.
