OGDEN, Utah—For the second consecutive week, Idaho junior
Maria Tavares has been recognized as the Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week the conference announced on Wednesday.
Tavares teamed with
Marianna Petrei at No. 1 doubles in Idaho's nonconference match against Montana State. The Vandals' top pairing picked up a 7-5 win. For the first time all season, Tavares played at No. 1 singles in the match and won 6-0, 6-2 at the top spot as the Vandals defeated the Bobcats 6-1.

The Porto, Portugal, native, followed up with another singles win in Idaho's 4-1 win over Boise State. The junior was back to playing at No. 2 singles and won her match 6-4, 6-2. Tavares is now 8-4 in singles play on the season playing primarily as the team's No. 2.

Tavares and the Vandals have the upcoming weekend off before facing Eastern Washington on Wednesday, April 4 in Moscow.
