Hausmann Named Golfer of the Year

Sophie Hausmann was named the 2018 Big Sky Women's Golfer of the Year

BOULDER CITY, Nev.- Idaho junior Sophie Hausmann was named the 2018 Big Sky Women's Golfer of the Year, as the league announced its annual awards Thursday, ahead of the conference championship. Hausmann is the first Idaho women's golf student-athlete to be named the Big Sky Golfer of the Year. Her award is the eighth player of the year honor for a Vandal regardless of conference, which have now been earned by six different student-athletes.

Hausmann was also named to the All-Big Sky First Team for the third consecutive year. She was joined as an all-conference selection by teammates Valeria Patino and Michelle Kim. Patino earned second-team honors, while Kim was named to the third team.

The All-Big Sky teams and awards were selected following the conclusion of the regular season, using a points system based on the Golfstat National Ranking, the Golfweek National Ranking and the adjusted score-to-par provided by Golfstat. Hausmann led the conference in each of the three categories to take home player of the year honors.

Using the three factors to create a composite score, the five lowest point totals were named to the first team, the next five lowest were named to the second team, the next five lowest were named to the third team and five more were named honorable mention.

The 2018 Big Sky Championships will take place Friday through Sunday, at Boulder Creek Golf Club near Las Vegas. The Vandals, the host institution for the neutral-site event, are vying for a second conference title in three years after losing last season's title in a playoff. Since returning to the Big Sky prior to the 2015 season, Idaho has finished first, second and third at the conference championship. Hausmann was the individual medalist as a freshman in 2016, and finished second last season.
