SACRAMENTO, Calif. –
Andrea Condie closed out competition for the Vandals, taking on the 5k.  She finished in 39th overall with a time of 16:40.36, beating her rank of 40th coming in.

"I'm happy with it.  It was a fast race, so I was just trying to stick with it as long as I could," said Condie.  "I think I did that, and I'm pretty excited about the 3k PR in the 5k.  I'm looking forward to next year for sure and being more ready for that fast pace."

"I think she ran with a lot of courage," said Travis Floeck, assistant coach for distance/cross country.  "Going into the race, I told her that if there was any moment where she wasn't sure if she should go or not, just go.  And I saw her do that, and by doing that she was running really hard in the beginning because it was one of the greatest NCAA 5k's ever."

The race got out a blistering pace, but Condie stuck with it.  Her time after the opening 3000 meters would have been a personal best in that event.

In the end, Condie gained valuable experience at the highest level, something that will surely pay dividends in the future.

"It was a really great experience honestly, just being out there on the track and with these amazing other athletes," Condie said.  "The whole atmosphere is so different than any other meet I've been at.  It was just such a cool atmosphere and I really enjoyed racing and being in the moment.  It was such an exciting experience and I'm so excited to hopefully have that chance to be here again and hopefully move up to a higher place next year.  It was such a great experience I just want to relive it for sure."

"I thought she ran with a lot of poise and courage," said Floeck.  "It was just an insane race.  Just to walk away, knowing she was a part of that, it's going to serve her well going forward.  I thought she handled everything all week, today, leading up to the race and standing on the line.  I was happy with what she did to prepare herself to go do her best."

Earlier today, Austin Beyer placed 25th in the javelin and Zachary Short took 24th in the shot put.
