THE COURSE: Shoal Creek Country Club is located in Shoal Creek, Ala., a suburb southeast of Birmingham. The course will play at 6,689 yards and par 72. Shoal Creek has twice hosted the PGA Championship (1984 and 1990). More information on the club can be found HERE.
THE FIELD:Â The tournament field will consist of 156 players, both professional and amateur. Players meeting specific criteria are exempt from qualifying, while the remaining spots are allocated over 25 sectional qualifying sites across the United States, China, England, Japan and Korea. This year, 101 exemptions were handed out and 55 spots were available through qualifying. Hausmann qualified by finishing second at the Seattle Sectional Qualifier (May 14). She is expected to be one of only 24 amateurs in the field.
THE FORMAT:Â The 72-hole tournament will be played over four days. The field will be cut to the top 60 scorers and ties after 36 holes.
ON THE BIG STAGE:Â Currently checking in at No. 57 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, Hausmann is no stranger to teeing it up on the big stage. While playing in a major championship is uncharted territory, she has performed every step of the way to get to this point. She won the 2016 German Ladies Amateur Championship, finished fourth at the 2015 European Ladies Amateur Championship and represented Germany at the 2016 World Team Amateur Championships.
SEASON REVIEW:Â Hausmann recently wrapped up her junior campaign with the Vandals, highlighted by earning Big Sky Player of the Year honors. She finished the year with a scoring average of 72.5, ranking No. 2 in school history and No. 46 nationally this season. Hausmann recorded two wins, including her second individual Big Sky Conference championship, and five top-10 finishes. After leading the Vandals to their second Big Sky team title in three years, the season came to an end at the NCAA Madison Regional. Hausmann finished in a tie for 11th, Â becoming the first Vandal to shoot under par at a regional in program history.
LOOKING AHEAD:Â Already one of the most decorated golfers to don the Silver and Gold, Hausmann will look to solidify her place in program lore when she returns for her senior season in 2018-19. Her career scoring average of 73.2 ranks second in school history and within reach of all-time leader Kayla Mortellaro's 72.8. Hausmann also ranks among career leaders in wins (four), top-10 finishes (10) and top-25 finishes (20).
