MADISON, Wis.- Idaho women's golf posted its first sub-300 round at an NCAA Regional in program history Tuesday, shooting a 9-over 297 in the second round of the NCAA Madison Regional at University Ridge Golf Course. Junior
Sophie Hausmann led the way with a 1-under 71. Hausmann is tied for 16th on the individual leaderboard at 1-under (143; 72-71), the best 36-hole score at a regional in school history. The Vandals remain in 15th as a team.
Hausmann played her final nine holes at 1-under, including a par save on the final hole to remain under par for the day. It is just the third all-time sub-par round recorded by an Idaho women's golfer at an NCAA Regional.
All five Vandals improved Tuesday, including a five-stroke turnaround by junior
Michelle Kim to post a 2-over 74. Kim birdied two of her last five holes. Freshman
Valeria Patino also shot a 74 and is in a tie for 59th at 5-over 149 through two rounds.
Laura Gerner and
Kendall Gray each shot 6-over 78 to improve by two and three strokes, respectively, from the first round.
The top six teams at the end of the regional will advance to the NCAA National Championships in Stillwater, Okla. Additionally, the top three individuals from non-advancing teams will move on to nationals.
Hausmann is currently one stroke back of forcing a playoff for the final spot. Much will change throughout the final day of action as three teams enter the final day in a tie for sixth.
Due to anticipated thunderstorms, the final round will be played as a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m. CT.
