MOSCOW, Idaho –Cole Alteneder and Donnée Janzen have been recognized as this week’s Vandals of the Week, for their exceptional work in the classroom.

Alteneder, who competes with Idaho track and field, is studying business marketing and currently boasts a cumulative grade-point average of 3.63. With a focus on entrepreneurship, Alteneder has a number of options for when he graduates.

“I’m currently working on my real estate license to go into real estate as an agent,” said Alteneder. “Eventually I want to go into business and real estate management.”

Janzen recently wrapped up her senior season with the volleyball team is set to graduate with her degree in exercise, science and health. She currently has a 3.69 GPA.

“My major is exercise, science and health, and I also have a minor in pre-health studies,” Janzen said. “I want to be able use my knowledge of exercise and sport and be able to apply that in the nursing field. My career goals are to become a nurse. I’m pretty excited to be able to help others and make an impact in the healthcare setting.”

Both have had great experiences during their time at Idaho, and really appreciated the support of faculty and advisors along the way.

“A class that I’m in right now that I love is my entrepreneurship 415 class with George Tanner. It’s just free-reign entrepreneurship skills,” Alteneder said. “It’s based on pitching, competing. We go to pitch competitions and we compete for money.”

“One of the most memorable things about my degree and my experience so far has been the faculty,” Janzen said. “We have some amazing professors and my academic advisor, Paul Alderete has been absolutely amazing.”

As always, both were also appreciative of the recognition for their hard work in the classroom.

“It honestly means a lot,” said Alteneder. “I wasn’t anything special academically growing up as a kid. I was pretty bare-minimum until my junior year of high school. As a student-athlete I think it’s our duty to represent, show that this can be done even though we have these busy schedules.”

“To be honored for my academic performance is really, really inspiring for me. I think I’ve worked really hard in the classroom over the last four years and I’ve absolutely loved my degree and I’ve loved the faculty and I’ve loved my peers as well,” Janzen said. “It’s really an honor to be honored for this and to have the opportunity to share my inspiration with others.”
