MOSCOW, Idaho – Timo Dohm of men's cross country/track and field and Marta Magalhaes from women's tennis have been named this week's Vandals of the Week for their exceptional work in the classroom.

Dohm is in his third season with the Vandals and is studying chemistry with a focus on pre-med. He is also minoring in psychology, has earned multiple Academic All-Big Sky honors and currently has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.76.

"I hope to go to med school, or continue to study chemistry with a masters or PhD program," said Dohm.

Magalhaes, originally from Portugal, is a senior studying exercise science and health movement sciences. She has twice been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and is wrapping up her final semester with the Vandals with a cumulative GPA of 3.82.

"I want to get into the coaching field," said Magalhaes. "My plan is to be a tennis assistant coach at a different university next year."

Both were quick to single out a favorite class or experience at Idaho.

"I really like organic chemistry," Dohm said. "It's a tough class, and it's hard to make sense of sometimes. But when you start to get it, it feels really rewarding. Those are my favorite kinds of classes."

"My favorite class was actually not a class," Magalhaes said. "It was an internship that was required for my major. I am a teaching assistant for a fitness class here at the University of Idaho and it's just awesome to get to see how I can put into real life what I am learning in all of my classes."

As always, the recognition for the hard work in the classroom was greatly appreciated.

"It feels good," said Dohm. "I know my coaches put a big emphasis on performance in academics as well as athletics. It feels good to be recognized for both of those different aspects of being a student-athlete."

"It's always nice to see your hard work being recognized," said Magalhaes. "It's also a motivational factor to just get through these three last weeks."
