Olsen and Stewart pack punch at Hayward Relays

EUGENE, Ore. - Idaho's three-time All-American Joachim Olsen and Simon Stewart packed a one-two punch in the shot put at the University of Oregon's Hayward Relays held at Hayward Field today.

Olsen, who already qualified for the NCAA Division I Nationals last week in the shot put, broke his own school record and set a new personal best 64-11.25 to capture first place at the Hayward Relays. Stewart finished second with a personal best throw of 57-1.5.

Other top individual finishers for Idaho included Tawanda Chiwira, first in the 200 meters, 21.28 and Sherwin James who tied for first in the long jump with a new personal best mark of 24-0.25. James tied with Nat Johnson of Oregon.

The Vandals' 4x100 relay team (Nikela Ndebele, Errol Aguilera, Chiwira and James) captured a first-place finish and set a new meet record in a time of 40.38.

"Today's meet was pretty much a throwers and relay meet for us," stated UI's Head Coach Wayne Phipps. "We were extremely pleased with Joachim's mark in the shot put which currently places him first in the nation in this event."

Idaho will be at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. April 14-16.
