Vandals Fall To Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. - The University of Idaho women's soccer team fell to 1-4-0 on the season following a 1-0 loss to Eastern Washington University at Cheney, Wash., Wednesday.

Cyeeta Mott scored for the Eagles at the 24:13 mark of the first half and the Vandals were never able to overcome the deficit. Eastern Washington beat Idaho for the first time in series history after the Vandals held a 7-0 edge over the Eagles all time.

"They just outworked us," head coach Arby Busey said. "The game was played on a wet, sloppy field and it came down to the winner would be whoever was going to work the hardest. They were the better team today and it was a disappointing way to lose. We created when our backs were against the wall in the last five minutes, but it was too little, too late."

Ali South and Melissa Martinazzi had chances to put the Vandals on the board late in the game, but each shot went over the top bar. The Vandals were outshot by the total of 22-13.

The Vandals will now head back to Moscow, Idaho, where they will take on Idaho State in their home opener on Friday (Sept. 17).

"We need to come back and regain our composure as we get ready to play at home this weekend. Idaho State is going to be ready to whip our tails if we do not come out with a strong effort," Busey said.
