Vandals Fall Hard at UC Riverside, 64-47

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Emily Faurholt scored a game-high 25 points, however a second-half meltdown by the University of Idaho women's basketball team meant a 17-point conference loss as the Vandals fell at UC Riverside, 64-47.

The game was tied 31-31 at the half, however the Vandals looked out of sync in the second half and were overmatched by everyone on the floor who was not wearing an Idaho jersey.

Emily Faurholt had 19 points by halftime, but the rest of the Vandal squad struggled to find a rhythm in the first half. Idaho committed only two first half turnovers, but shot just 10-of-29 (.345) from the floor. Seven ties and seven lead changes meant a 31-31 tie at intermission.

The Vandals hit the hardwood after the half and missed six of its first seven shots. That translated to a 13-2 run by UC Riverside over the first five minutes and the Highlanders gained a 44-33 advantage. The Vandals struggled to find a flow and the Highlanders stretched the lead to as many as 19 points at their largest margin as Idaho shot just 6-of-30 (.200) from the floor, including 0-of-10 from the 3-PT line, in the second half.

Leilani Mitchell was the only other Vandal to score in double figures as she finished with 10 points and four steals.

UC Riverside freshman Kemie Nkele was one block shy of a triple-double in the contest as she finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds, and nine blocks. The Highlanders blocked a total of 15 shots in the contest.

The next action for the Vandals will be Saturday (Jan. 22) as Idaho be in Cal State Fullerton. That game will begin at 7 p.m.
