Faurholt's 32 Points Lift Vandals Over CS Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. - Emily Faurholt scored a season-high 32 points to lead the University of Idaho (10-6, 5-2) women's basketball team to a hard-fought 72-68 win at Cal State Fullerton (2-13, 1-6).

The win keeps the Vandals a perfect 6-0 this season when leading at halftime and gives head coach Mike Divilbiss 10 wins in each of his four seasons at Idaho.

The two teams remained close throughout much of the first half as the first 20 minutes saw four ties and two lead changes. Idaho built a seven-point lead on two occasions and only let CS Fullerton get up by two at its biggest lead. The Vandals shot 15-of-31 (.484) from the floor in the first half and had two players in double figures at the half with Faurholt leading the way at 16 points and Mitchell close behind with 10 points. Fullerton held the game close with 14-of-31 (.452) shooting and nine offensive rebounds as Idaho held a 37-35 lead at the break.

The second half began with a back-and-forth battle which saw four ties and two lead changes in the first five minutes. The final tie of the second half came at 45-45 with 15:10 remaining before the Vandals used a transition game to build a 14-point lead with 6:52 remaining. The Titans switched to a zone defense and held the Vandal shooters at bay, quickly using a 12-1 run to bring the score within three points at 68-65. Idaho then was able to convert three-of-four free throws down the stretch to hold on for the four-point victory.

Faurholt used 12-of-23 (.522) shooting to score her season-high point total and grabbed six rebounds. She struggled from the free throw line, however, shooting just 6-of-12 (.500). Mitchell and Thoelke both eclipsed double-digits in points as Mitchell finished with 17 points and Thoelke was close behind with 15 points. Mitchell also totaled six assists, five steals and five rebounds. Jessica Summers also contributed six points and led the Vandals with nine rebounds.

CS Fullerton was lead by Andrea Adams who used 5-of-9 (.556) 3-PT shooting to score a team-high 24 points. Melanie Mosley had a double-double for the Titans as she tallied 12 points and 16 rebounds. The Titans held a 48-29 rebounding edge, which included 21 offensive rebounds.

The Vandals will now travel home as they will take on Long Beach State and UC Irvine at the Cowan Spectrum next week.
