Vandals fall to Alcorn State in Kansas

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Despite three players scoring in double figures, the University of Idaho women's basketball team lost its first game of the Commerce Bank Wildcat Classic Friday afternoon losing, 81-62.

With the loss Idaho falls to 2-4 on the season. Alcorn State improves to 2-1 with the victory.

"We didn't come out for this game with the fire and intensity we had Wednesday," coach Mike Divilbiss said. "We gave up too many transition baskets, and too many points in the paint. This was a very athletic team, very much like the Southern team we played last season. They have two good inside players and they run their offense through them."

"This is the kind of game you will have when you have eight new kids, there are going to be peaks and valleys," Divilbiss added. "It is a process and we are still learning who we are and how to play together."

True freshman Katie Madison led the Vandals as she had 19 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was the fifth of the year for the Brush Prairie, Wash., native. Liz Witte had 13 points in the game for Idaho. Witte hit on 3-6 3-point shots. Sara Dennehy was also in double-digits for the game as she had 12 points.

Rasaan Powell led all scorers as she had 28 points in the game to go with 16 rebounds. Powell was 12-20 from the field for the game.

Idaho shot .365 for the game while allowing Alcorn State to hit .471 from the field.

The Vandals will face Mississippi State in the consolation game of the tournament which will tip off Saturday at 2 p.m., PST.
