Vandals send three to NCAA Indoor Championships

MOSCOW, Idaho - Three Idaho Vandal track and field athletes qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 10-11, in Fayetteville, Ark.

 

WAC men's shot put champion Russ Winger enters the championships with the fourth best mark in the nation, at 64-4.

 

Winger earned first team all-WAC honors in the shot put and also finished fifth in the men's weight throw at the conference championships to earn second team all-WAC.

 

Distance runner Driss Yousfi, who earned two first team all-WAC honors by winning the conference championships in the men's 800m and running the final leg of the winning men's distance medley relay team, qualified in the 800m run with a time of 1:48.86.

 

Dee Olson, who earned three first team all-WAC honors at the conference championships, qualified in the women's mile run with a time of 4:41.23 and the 3000m run with a school-record time of 9:18.78.

 

Olson won the women's 3000m run and ran the final leg of the winning distance medley relay, along with finishing second in the mile at the WAC championships.

 

"I think the people we have there have a very good chance of being All-Americans," co-head coach Wayne Phipps said.
