HONOLULU, Hawai'i - University of Idaho junior decathlete Andrew Blaser posted four career-best marks in five first-day events on Tuesday and will take a 256-point lead into the second day of the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

Blaser opened the meet with three straight PRs in the 100m (11.01), long jump (22-10.5, 6.97m) and shot put (35-2, 10.72m), then cleared a season-best 6-4.75 (1.95m) in the high jump and finished his day with a 50.75 in the 400m, for a career-best first-day score of 3,732.

Blaser had the top marks in the long jump and high jump, and posted the second-best finishes in the 100m and 400m to put him in the strong position.

The second day of the decathlon will start with the 110m hurdles, in which Blaser has the WAC's fourth-fastest time this season, then the discus throw, followed by the pole vault, where he ranks third in the conference this year, and then wraps up with the javelin and 1500m.

Wednesday's competition starts at 4 p.m. (PT) with the hurdles. The 1500m is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m.
