Bossio, Vandals take lead

University of Idaho senior Jarred Bossio fired a six-under 66 to move into the lead of the Jim West Intercollegiate at the Victoria (Texas) Country Club. Bossio opened the day in a tie for third but turned in a seven-birdie, one-bogey round to pull into the lead with an eight-under 136.

He took Idaho with him to the top of the leaderboard. The Vandals were eight off the opening-day pace by Stephen F. Austin but were a collective 280 (five-under-par) Monday to take the lead with one round to play. Sam Houston State trails Idaho by five (572-577) and Stephen F. Austin is third at 580.

Coach John Means said the improvement was a matter of the Vandals' intent.

“They focused on making better decisions,” Means said. “They have the talent.”

Joining Bossio in the top 10 is senior Gordon Webb, who was a one-under 71 and tied for eighth. Stefan Richardson, another senior, matched Webb's second-round 71 and moved into 24th at 147 for the tournament. Justin Kadin, the fourth senior on the Vandal team, is tied for 29th at 149 after a 75 Monday, and redshirt freshman Sean McMullen, who had a 72 Monday, is tied for 32nd at 150.

Bossio has a one-stroke lead over Stephen F. Austin's Mitchell McLeroy, who is at 137 after 36 holes. UTEP's Martin Simonsen is third at 139.
