Vandals top Wyoming

Box Score

LARAMIE, Wyo. – The University of Idaho women's basketball team went on the road to the Mountain West Conference Tuesday and came up big with 77-66 victory over Wyoming.

Coach Jon Newlee had a plan for the Vandals going in.

“Mental toughness. No excuses,” said Newlee of the team's travel to the much-emphasized 7,000-foot elevation at Laramie. “We're not going to take any excuses. We're just going to play.”

The Vandals took that message to heart and weathered runs by the Cowboys to improve to 2-2 while Wyoming, which had outscored its opponents 186-70, is 2-1.

Newlee said Tuesday's game also reflected a lesson learned in a loss last week.

“We really learned from that game,” he said. “I told them after the game, 'You guys played like the WAC champions you are.' They kept their composure. I'm really proud of my team tonight.”

Three Vandals reached double figures with Stacey Barr leading the way with 23 points and Brooke Reilly adding 19 and Christina Salvatore finishing with 18. The Vandals also maintained a commanding rebounding edge, 47-40, with nine each from Barr and Salvatore.

“We did a great job on the game plan,” Newlee said.
