Vandals Tie Eagles

MOSCOW, Idaho – On an incredibly gusty afternoon at Guy Wicks Field, Idaho (13-4-2, 9-0-1) drew against Eastern Washington (12-3-3, 6-2-2), 1-1.  The Vandals also celebrated senior day, with Reagan Quigley playing her final regular season home game.

“It feels great to finish the regular season undefeated in conference,” said head coach Derek Pittman.  “We wanted to play as well as we can in front of our home fans and we did that.”

Idaho got on the board first, scoring in the 70th minute.  Just prior, Alyssa Lloyd took a shot from close range that the Eagle's goalkeeper was able to push into the crossbar and out for a corner.  Clara Gomez sent in a great cross on the corner, finding Amanda Pease on the back post.  Pease then rose up and headed in her first collegiate goal.

Amanda Pease is at the back post for a reason,” Pittman said.  “She was in the right place at the right time and I thought she did a great job in finishing it.”

Eastern Washington leveled the score in the 83rd minute, with player of the year candidate Chloe Williams scoring her team-leading 11th goal of the season.

“Eastern Washington is a good team,” sad Pittman.  “We gave them too much space and their best player on the field, Chloe Williams, made us pay for it.”

Each team had at least one quality chance in the overtime periods.  The Eagles' best opportunity came in the 93rd minute.  Following a cross, the ball took a strange bounce, forcing Torell Stewart to react quickly and push the ball wide.  EWU's Savanna Hoekstra gathered the loose ball and took a low, driven shot to the right side of the goal, but Madison Moore made a sliding save to keep the Vandals alive.

Idaho's best chance came 10 minutes later, with Olivia Baggerly's free kick coming off the Eagle keeper's hands.  Two Vandals had a chance at the loose ball, but neither could convert.

Next up for the Vandals is the Big Sky Championships, hosted by Idaho.  The Vandals begin play on Friday at 1 p.m.
