MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho track and field and cross country program announced its second signing this morning: Canadian and elite middle distance talent, Dean Ellenwood. The British Columbia native's personal record 800m time (1:51.78) ranks him second in his class in Canada and would put him in the top-10 in the U.S. for the class of 2016.
Ellenwood competed at the World Youth Championships last summer, representing Canada in the 800m while also earning a bronze medal in the co-ed 4x400m relay. Ellenwood boasts a blistering 400m best time of 48.6.
Ellenwood also saw success outside the track and in the classroom having been named to numerous honor rolls and participated in a number of charitable events including fundraising for the Special Olympics program, as well as being a strong advocate for the non-closure of his high school, Langley Secondary.
“We're excited to welcome Dean into the Vandal family. He has great speed and is starting to show his range with it by running cross country and 1500 this year,” head coach and director of track and field and cross country Tim Cawley noted. “Dean is also a talent in the classroom and will be a great fit for our team.”
Son of David and Kari Ellenwood, Dean Spensley Ellenwood was born April 2nd, 1998. Ellenwood has two older siblings, Stuart Ellenwood, brother who runs track at Simon Fraser University, while his sister, Georgia Ellenwood competes in track at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Ellenwood's career pursuits include an interest in physiotherapy.
