Idaho wins big

MOSCOW, Idaho – A school-record 127 points gave Idaho (7-5) the 127-54 win over New Hope (3-12) at the Cowan Spectrum on Friday night.  Jake Straughan led the way with a career-high 24 points.

“That's one thing about this team, I have a lot of guys that work hard in practice and it was good to get those guys some minutes,” said head coach Don Verlin.  “Then they came in and played well.  I thought Jake came in and played well, I thought Chad came in and played well.  Nick was active around the glass and so was Skyler.”

Idaho went deep into its bench, with all 14 active players seeing minutes.  Straughan finished the night 8-of-14 from beyond the arc for a game-high 24 points.  Chad Sherwood had 18 points, all on 3-pointers, while Skyler White picked up his first double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.  Victor Sanders, Nahshon George, Nick Blair, Ty Egbert and Jordan Scott all finished in double-figures.

Idaho got out to a 20-0 lead before New Hoop scored on a pair of free throws.  The Vandals would not look back, building their lead throughout the game.

As a team, the Vandals shot 59.6 percent (53-of-89) from the field and 44.2 percent (19-of-43) from range.  Idaho attempted just two free throws and made both.

The 127 points by the Vandals are the most in a game in program history.  The previous record, 122, came against Arizona State on December 6, 1965.

Next up, the Vandals travel to UC Davis on December 22.  Check back with GoVandals.com as the game gets closer for more information.
