Two Transfers Set for Spring

MOSCOW, Idaho—Haylee Mathis (Strasburg, Ill./Washington State) and Klaree Hobart (Lewiston, Idaho/Blue Mountain CC) have both transferred to the University of Idaho and will play for the Vandals at the start of the 2016 spring volleyball season.

Haylee Mathis

Mathis, a 5-11 setter, began her collegiate career at Washington State. She redshirted as a freshman and sat out the 2015 season. She earned four varsity letters for coach Kristie Bailey at St. Anthony High School in her hometown of Strasburg., Ill.

"Haylee is a very physical setter who will be able to start running the offense this spring," head coach Debbie Buchanan explained. "She comes to the Palouse with high level club experience and we are excited with what she will bring to our program."

She was a two-time National Trail Conference MVP honoree and was selected to the all-conference team four times. Mathis led the Bulldogs to four NTC championships. In 2013 St. Anthony advanced to Illinois Super Sectionals - the Elite Eight for the state… She was named to the Illinois State honorable mention team in 2012 and was also named a PrepVolleyball.com Sophomore 79. Mathis was named to the Decatur Area Best 2012 team and played on the 2012 USA Volleyball High Performance Girls Select Continental and 2013 USA High Performance Girls Youth A1 National teams. In 2013 she was named to the USA Volleyball High Performance All-Tournament team.

Klaree Hobart

Hobart, a 5-10 outside hitter, played two years at Blue Mountain CC in Pendleton, Ore. Hobart helped the Timberwolves to back-to-back Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Championships in 2014 and 2015. Blue Mountain went 20-1 overall in 2015 and 14-0 in conference play. Hobart totaled 179 kills, averaging 2.59 per set. She was second on the team with 210 digs, 3.04 per set, and totaled 19 service aces. Hobart was First Team East Region in 2014 along with being honored as a First Team All-American.

"Klaree played all around the floor last season at Blue Mountain Community College," Buchanan said. "Her strength is in her passing and defense. She is a very competitive player with a great attitude. She will be a great addition to our team this spring."

Hobart, a native of Lewiston, Idaho, played for the 2012 and 2013 5A State Championship teams at Lewiston H.S. She was the 2013 Inland Empire League (IEL) Defensive Player of the Year. Hobart was also voted Second Team All-State in 2012 and 2013.

The two transfers join Idaho's five incoming freshmen announced in December. The Vandals will have nine returning players from their 2015 roster.
