EUGENE, Ore.—Senior Rita Bermudez earned Idaho's lone point against the Oregon Ducks on Saturday. The Vandals dropped the match, 6-1, playing shorthanded against the No. 51 ranked team in the nation.
Idaho was without its normal No.1 Marianna Petrei, moving everyone up a spot in the singles lineup. Bermudez, playing in the No. 4 position, took the first set (6-3) against UO's Micheline Aubuchon to go up 1-0 to start. Aubuchon answered back with a 6-2 second-set win. Bermudez took care of business in the tie-breaker, taking the set 10-2.
“Oregon is a very strong team,” head coach Mariana Cobra stated. “They are very tough and consistent. They showed why they are a top-ranked team in the nation. I thought we did a good job of handling the challenge. We fought hard today.”
The Ducks jumped out to a 1-0 lead early, taking the doubles point to start the day. Oregon scored victories on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts to wrap up the point. The No. 3 match featuring the Idaho pairing of Ana Batiri and Lucia Badillos was left unfished at 3-3.
Oregon's Alyssa Tobita topped Maria Tavares in straight sets to put the Ducks up 2-0. Bellen Barcenilla dropped the No. 1 court to Nia Rose, 6-1, 6-2, giving the Ducks the 3-0 advantage. Daniela Nasser clinched the match for Oregon on the No. 6 court, giving UO the 4-0 lead.
The Vandals are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 4, taking on former Western Athletic Conference rival Seattle U in Pullman.
